The week features heated discussions over the Lennett censorship bill and measures touching food labeling and home production. Proposals aim to curb certain abuses, grant regulatory powers, and shape enforcement amid partisan battles and anticipated votes in the state legislature.
A large outdoor pageant in La Crosse will feature about 1500 participants and depict the area's history from 1728 to the present. Set for July 16 through 18 at the city grounds, the production is by the Ta Crosse Community Pageants Association with many civic groups and organizations involved. Promoters include Dr. Raward Hoars and A J Roberge among others, with a permanent organizing committee to be elected within a week. The event aims to unite nurses, factions, creeds, and races and will include school children and parents in dances, pioneer scenes, and Indian legends, with a complete scenario of La Crosse county’s history.
H A Renz Jr, overseas veteran from Washington, recovered his voice during an airplane flight at Bolling Field. After a previous recovery on April 25, he again spoke clearly after about 30 minutes at 12,509 feet. Public Health Service officials will continue tests though a permanent cure is not yet guaranteed.
Reports from Republican leaders indicate action on the Knox peace resolution may be postponed as wartime economic and other problems dominate. House leaders expect the measure to stay with Foreign Affairs for about a month, with the Senate already approving it last week but uncertain on timing. Ambassadors Wallance and Boyden return as observers, while George Harvey will guide U S policy from London after arrival.

BERT BIGSBEE drowned when he slipped from the Clin an street bridge into the Black River Saturday evening. A large search by boats with hooks, poles, and hopeful hands dragged the water for hours, but the body was recovered near midnight, about a short distance from the spot of the fall. Witnesses say Bigsbee, returning to North La Crosse from French land, fell into five to six feet of water, swam briefly under the new bridge, then sank again as rescuers hurried to aid. Police and patrolmen joined the effort, but the body was not recovered that night.
Scout Car No a of the Mississippi River Scenic Highway arrives in Natchez from Winninogs to New Orleans Vert Arthur Texas and Houston marking the first direct winter run. Truman Pierson of Winnerpolis Minnesota leads the party with Herbert Stanley of Greenville Mississippi and Mrs Stanley and Mrs Pierson. Scout the fox terrier and Dixie the Persian kitten appear pleased with a comfortable night in Natchez.
In Winona Minnesota Winona Teachers College hosted an 8 team triangular track and field meet with La Crosse High School and Le Crosse, scoring 5974 to 40 percent for La Crosse. Burris of Winona led individually with wins in the high hurdle and 440 yard dash and a second in the low hurdle. Captain George Vondrasek of the Winona team improved on last year’s marks, throwing the javelin 145 feet and discus 111 feet.
In St Paul Minnesota an automobile driven by Mrs Taooh Al Silverman of St Paul plunged from an embankment at the Marshal Avenue bridge into the Mississippi River 150 feet below. The baby in the car, eight months old Moriel Silver, was killed while four others were bruised and shaken. Police say the car collided with another vehicle before sliding into the river. Mrs Silverman suffered serious cuts.
About seven hundred subscribers of the People's Telephone company of Stewart Mira, now here, order their telephones removed as the company raises rates. Subscribers contend the increase is warranted by service quality and demand expedited action from officials.
Three new forest fires started Saturday near My in District 18 of the Minnesota state forest reserve. A force of 45 guards under Henry G. Weber of Duluth watched the fires since late Saturday. Early Saturday night Weber reported the flames were growing slowly, under control for now, with extremely dry weather making forests highly susceptible. Winds forecast could worsen the situation, so guards remained on standby ready to rush to the fires if needed.
The body of Father Xavier Till former pastor of St Wenceslaus Church died Wednesday in St Louis arrived by train Saturday night at 6 10. Priests and laymen met the body at the station and Catholic societies will escort it to St Wenceslaus Church where it lies in state until Monday morning. Bohemian Eighty will guard the casket. A Requiem Mass will be held Monday at 9 a.m. Interment follows at the Catholic cemetery.
ROCHESTIM Minn Condition of Granii K Tane former secretary of the interior who underwent an operation Thursday remained unchanged Saturday night. He is still serious with the attending physician expecting Monday. Mr and Mrs Franklin K Taue Jr and other relatives arrived here Saturday. Parents and children born Wolballa N 30 and Mrs Sunnlop and the infant children were burned to death this morning following an explosion of kerosene used to light a fire in the kitchen store house destroyed.
The public is invited to visit La Crosse area hospitals on Thursday March 12 designated as National Hospital Day. Women undecided about future plans are urged to inspect the local institutions and view the work they perform at St. Francis Hospital, Lutherin Hospital, Ta Crogse Hospital, and Grand View Hospital.
At a directors meeting an increased sum was appropriated to expand fair purses. The action signals enhanced prize money and support for upcoming events.
