Onalaska Wisconsin firefighters fought a lengthy barn fire at the Bernard Pralle farm for nearly seven hours. They used about 30000 gallons of water, cut holes in the barn, and removed 40 calves unharmed as interior damage left the structure a total loss.
The White House says aides may be questioned informally before the Senate Watergate committee. Nixon ordered staff to appear for grand jury testimony but not at formal committee hearings. McCord, Liddy, and others face grand jury subpoenas and potential sentence delays.
President Nguyen Van Thieu flew to the United States on the first leg of a six day, five nation trip aimed at forging a new era of peace. He told cheering crowds at Tan Son Nhut that the tour seeks cooperation in peace as he meets Nixon officials for commitments of billions in aid to sustain the Saigon regime amid scrutiny over his leadership.
