Berlin reports the Foreign Office flatly denies any Kaiser objection to Dr. Hill's appointment. The Kaiser reportedly approved last November and remains supportive. No German statement is en route to Washington, and no change in ambassadorship has occurred. The rumor origin remains unclear. Ambassador Tower says he plans to resign within a few months.

Mathias Nelson Berg aged 72 dies suddenly at his daughter's La Crosse home after a brief illness. Born in Norway and long resident near West Salem he leaves a widow and one daughter Mrs. Thomas K Pederson. Funeral arrangements by Fessler Dahl await Mrs Berg’s arrival.
