Allis Chalmers Manufacturing announces a 1947 net profit of 5,422,808 or 1.60 a share and 211,949,890 in net sales. Profit rose despite strikes at seven of eight plants and West Allis production nearly halted in early 1947. Walter Geist cites a peacetime sales record with 14 percent foreign business. annual meeting set for May 6 in West Allis.

On a foggy Friday morning Eugene Hicks finds a chicken stuck between his car bumper and a spring near St Andrew street railroad crossing. Bystanders and a policeman lift the car with a bumper jack to free the bird, which then vanishes into the crowd leaving Hicks puzzled.
