In the House of Commons Churchill criticizes Washington for releasing the Yalta papers describing them as an American version and not an agreed record. He warns that publication could hinder future conferences and urges consultation among parties.
Maj. Gen. E L M Burns of Canada prepared to blame Israel for the Feb 28 Gaza clash that killed 38 Egyptians and eight Israelis. He will urge strengthening border monitoring and present a report and recommendations to the Security Council.
La Crosse County Board voted 36 to 3 to buy six Hudson Hornets for the county highway police at 6640 dollars, with trade-in value of 1705 dollars per car. Some members questioned state patrol plans and post purchase use, while others praised current highway police effectiveness. The motion to postpone was defeated. The board also kept meal expense limits and referred a generator purchase for emergency service up to 2000 dollars to the finance committee.

Six of seven mayoral contenders spoke at a La Crosse LWV public meeting in City Hall to outline views on efficient government, school building plans, parking, streets, and recreation. George W. Klein urged businesslike city operation, while Hugh H. Gauper promoted a stance away from entanglements in national security. Levi W. Swett called for economical strength and support for small business, the college development plan, and potential department reforms. Milo G. Knutson urged separation of powers and cost reduction, with others advocating similar reforms and economic growth.
Secretary of State Dulles refused to answer why the Yalta papers were released now. He said he would not answer Canada related questions and walked away before reporters at the MATS terminal in Washington. An official cited newspaper access and GOP pressure as reasons for the release.

The Air Force will also order about 3 500 ROTC graduates from last year to active training duty who could not join the Air Force but accepted Air National Guard commissions.
Washington witnesses Ferdinand Eberstadt and James Carey tell the Senate Banking Committee there is little need for drastic new rules to fix the stock market. They agree there are troubling elements, with Carey accusing the administration of pushing prices up, while Eberstadt lobbies for strict anti fraud enforcement.

The documents reveal Roosevelt and Churchill debated Poland and postwar regimes, and Roosevelt faced pressure from Stalin on Ukraine and Manchuria. Russia’s later moves solidified Communist rule across the region. The three leaders met in February 1945 at Yalta to shape postwar Germany and the Pacific war.

The railroad seeks $645,000 from two unions for damages and an additional $215,000 per day from AFL nonoperating unions for continuing the walkout. Six operating unions followed picket lines. freight is down 50 to 70 percent along the 4737 mile system, idling about 14 000 Kentucky coal miners and closing five central Kentucky plants. The Ralston Co. of Nashville expects to halt operations today.
