About 250 La Crosse businessmen met at Odd Fellows hall and created The La Crosse Business Men's League to protect local interests. The plan calls for a 2000 member group with a $1 fee and a petition drive, while condemning sensationalized moral claims and urging self reform.
Boston financier Thomas W. Lawson, author of The Story of the Amalgamated and Friday the Thirteenth, claims in a sensational postcard that he will strike again and wipe out stockholders. He asserts vast power over markets and governments and says he has hidden millions in secret deals alongside his public gains.
Berlin reports two deadly incidents. An explosion at Kleinrosselm in Lorraine kills thirty five miners this morning. A separate cage accident at St John claims twenty two miners, as rescue efforts proceed.
Washington March 16 Governor Deneen declared Speaker Joseph Cannon Illinois' candidate for president next year in a dispatch report.
Anton Olsen, a barber who ran a shop on Main Street until six years ago, died in West Salem at 5 AM Friday at age 30. Funeral is Monday at 2 PM with Rev. H. G. Magelssen officiating, burial in Oak Grove Cemetery after services at the home of Abney Olsen, 1549 Loomis Street.
Rev. F. Forster of Eau Claire leads St James parish for a few days and will say mass and deliver a sermon tomorrow. Sunday St Patrick's day marks the twentieth anniversary of Rev Murphy as pastor at St James church. he left this morning for a short visit with relatives and friends in Eau Claire.

Mrs. Dora McDonald wife of gambling king Mike McDonald faced a preliminary hearing in her cell and was held to the grand jury on a murder charge for killing artist Webster Guerin. She remained in a frenzied state and could not be brought to court.

James McNiff, another carpenter, was fatally burned. five others seriously hurt.
In Houghton Michigan on March 16 Joseph Hamill, 22, attacked his mother Mrs. Joseph Hamill at the Ripley homestead with a maple club and carving knife, killing her in a brutal act. He calmly confessed saying, Someone had to die, while crowd talk of lynching grows but authorities expect legal action after questions about his sanity.
Successful Y M C A campaigns in Indianapolis and Jacksonville push major building drives. Indianapolis aims 250000 with two committees each gathering 100000. Jacksonville canvass targets 150000 with several large donors including Cum mer and Barnett families.
Minnie Leven doski sues Frederick Levendoski for divorce in circuit court before Judge Fruit. She cites cruel treatment and left the husband in 1906 after the marriage in Bergen on April 9, 1901. They have three children, ages four, three, and a baby.
Knute Olsen of West La Crosse was hit by street car No. 36 around 10 45 am in front of Dur land and Valentine s grocery. He was knocked unconscious, revived by Dr. Sutter, and bruised with possible internal injuries. He was taken home in a carriage by Superintendent Livermore.

Articles of incorporation granted to El Moro Havana Company at 200 Main Street by the secretary of state and filed with the register of deeds. Incorporators are A. W. Langenbach, P. C. Wiggenhorn, and F. J. Noetzel. Capital stock $25,000. The firm organized last spring in La Crosse and sells a range of cigars and tobaccos.
