Silas Wallen of Taylor Dies at 50
Silas F. Wallen, 50, president of the village of Taylor Wisconsin, died at a Minneapolis veterans hospital after entering Jan 10 1948. A World War I veteran with the 32nd Red Arrow division, he was born Feb 9 1898 in Taylor and spent his life in the area. He married Myrtle Johnson in Cresco Iowa on April 19 1937 and worked in insurance. He served as Taylor village president and held other offices, and joined organizations including the Commercial club 40 et 8 American Legion VFW and La Crosse Last Man club. He was active in the Taylor Lutheran church and for the past year served as a La Crosse Tribune correspondent. Survived by wife Myrtle a foster son David at St Olaf College three brothers Sigurd Everett WA Martin Vancouver WA Julius La Crosse and many relatives. Funeral services Monday March 15 at 1 p m at Taylor Lutheran Church Rev B J Harlem will officiate with burial at Bay City Wisconsin.

Driver Arrested After Mississippi Bridge Crash
Charles W. Siefert, 51, was arrested after a head on collision on the Mississippi river bridge in which four people were injured. Siefert pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and received a $100 fine and one year license revocation. The most severely hurt was Gertrude Gittens, 39, with serious heel leg and wrist injuries. others, including Harry Drake and Gerald Albrecht, suffered various injuries. Siefert’s new 1948 car suffered front end damage estimated at $1,000. Gittens car was a total loss after the crash.
