The armored battleship Jena, at the Toulon arsenal dock, exploded in a powder magazine blast. Reports say about 200 to 400 officers and men died with around 100 more injured. the ship was wrecked and fires spread through the harbor area. The cause cited as compressed air during torpedo adjustments remains unconfirmed.
Robbers wrecked the Union Savings bank vaults in Homewell Kansas and escaped on a handcar without securing any money. Local authorities investigate the break in and search for suspects.
