The two day search for 50 year old Decorah bachelor Nels Tinjum ended with police concluding he likely drowned after falling from a railroad bridge into Dry Run creek. Three witnesses saw his kayak drift away as the stream fed into the Upper Iowa river near Decorah.
Andrew Olson was seriously injured in a head on collision on U S 16 near the Pine Creek tavern south of La Crescent. C A Carlson of Eitzen drove south while Olson traveled north on the leng side of the road. Leroy Smith of Burr Oak Jr and his wife were first on the scene and helped Carlson to a La Crosse hospital.
