Report states nine Texans crossed the border and removed the body of murdered American Vergara. Colquitt denies the foray, claiming civilian friends of the dead man took the body and brought it over the line.
In Austin on March 9 Mexican federals returned the body of Clemente Vergara American to the Texas side of the Rio Grande. Gov Colquitt was informed by Ranger Captain Sanders at Laredo that rangers did not cross the border to retrieve the body. Mexican officials advised him to go to a point opposite Hidalgo for the body, which he did see.
The mutilated body of Clemente Vergara is claimed to have been removed from Hidalgo by friends of the dead rancher, with Texas Rangers denying invasion of Mexico. Governor Colquitt says Captain Sanders found the body on the Texas side at 3:50 Sunday morning, while Mexican federals face diplomatic scrutiny as Washington awaits reaction. The Torreon attack by Gen Villa's troops also begins, with 2,900 federals reported engaged.

If he runs he will travel Wisconsin for a close personal canvass. he has served eleven terms representing Racine Kenosha Walworth Rock and Waukesha counties.
Chris Christopherson, a carpenter from Boscobel, traveled to La Crosse Saturday, entered City Engineer George Bradish’s home at 717 Cass Street, and slept in a chair until police arrived. He apologized, paid a $7.50 fine, and departed for Boscobel.
Friends of John L. Utermoehl circulate petitions among Board of Trade members to back his re election as secretary. The directors meet at the La Crosse club at noon to elect a secretary for the ensuing year. Debate surrounds whether ex officio directors may vote and if R D Fentress traffic manager for La Crosse Plant Company could lead a new traffic department. President E S Hebberd supports the idea as beneficial to La Crosse shippers.
Seven dead and thirty missing as a March 9 blaze on the third floor dining room of the seven story Missouri Athletic Club, which also housed Boatmen's bank, causes $350000 in damage. Fire started about 1:50 a m with two explosions, trapping guests and employees as flames swept through the building.
