Sadie Wimmer and the Song That Went to California

Sadie Wimmer, a 57 year old Youngstown widow who runs a cosmetic shop, wrote a note to Johnny Mercer six years ago to pen a song. Mercer wrote back a year later, and Sadie now expects several thousand dollars from Tony Bennett’s rising San Francisco hit record. The tale threads through Frank Sinatra rumors, TV moves, and Broadway chatter as industry figures react to the unusual copyright success.
