Mantilla Draws Line Between Mets and Electric Chair
Felix Mantilla, traded from the Mets to Boston, likened playing for the last-place NL club to an electric chair. The Cuban infielder said the Mets were the worst team he played for, recalling their 1961 season in which they dropped 120 of 160 games, with Mantilla batting .275 and 11 homers in 141 games. He played 95 at third, 14 at second, 25 at short. Mantilla, 28, noted he was lucky to be traded while others hoped for moves. The Mets set a modern record for futility in their debut season.
