Tri-State Deaths: Ostrem and Campell Rites Set

Obituary notes for Anna Ostrem of Lanesboro born 1886 and Mrs. Roy Campbell of Marquette. Ostrem survived by five sons, a daughter, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren with services at North Prairie Lutheran and cemetery burial. Wisconsin minister accepts dual parish call at Onalaska and La Crosse

Maynard McTuun a senior at Luther Theological Seminary has accepted the call to become pastor of First Lutheran Onalaska and Olivet Lutheran La Crosse. He will be ordained July 2 at Mt Horeb Wisconsin and begin duties soon after. He is a Wisconsin native, St Olaf graduate, World War II veteran, and has one child. The two churches recently formed a new parish within Trinity La Crosse under Pastor Carl Pederson and will house the pastor in Onalaska with a parsonage planned.

Miners Problems Not Solvable by Force Bishop Oxnam Says

OULWAUKEE The coal miners’ problems cannot be solved by force, said Bishop G Bromley Oxnam of New York during a Lenten address at First Methodist church. He urged John L Lewis and mine owners to sit and discuss with the owners rather than with union heads, and contrasted Soviet leader Stalin’s view of individuals as part of history with the Christian belief that each person is created in God’s image.
