May Trade Deficit Improved on Oil and Coffee Drop
The Commerce Department reported May’s U.S. trade deficit at 1.2 billion, the smallest this year, as exports rose 4 percent to 10.4 billion and imports fell 8 percent to about 11.6 billion. Oil imports declined 625 million and coffee fell 144 million, helping the lowest monthly oil bill this year at 3.1 billion. The five month total neared 9.8 billion, with imports still ahead of exports for the 12th straight month.
