Senator Vandenberg appears to have cleared the field for Republican presidential hopefuls seeking Michigan support. The move could make the state a pivotal arena in the 1948 race.
Vandenberg, who says he has no wish to be a candidate, may still secure Michigan's first line support at Philadelphia. he could be drafted to break a stalemate. Others like Dewey Taft Stassen compete for Michigan delegates as MacArthur weighs a Taft path.
