Campaign Gift Records In Question After Papers Gone
Sen Bridges urges House to determine if key campaign contribution statements have been destroyed. The 1952 Republican and 1949 1952 Democratic filings may be missing as the Justice Department seeks documents for grand jury investigations. House Clerk Roberts says 1951 1952 records not in existence and possibly sold as scrap paper. The department wants them archived after two years per law.

Veterans Pension Plans Ride a Tide of Changes
Congress debates nonservice connected pensions with cuts in some bills and increases in others. The major plan proposes $105 monthly for veterans 65 and older with low incomes, plus a 20 percent overseas service bonus for those with over 30 days abroad. It also boosts service connected injury payments by 10 to 15 percent and widows’ benefits, while alternative proposals trim pension levels, overseas bonuses, and retain some disability increases. Currently eligible veterans receive $66.15 monthly, rising to $78.75 with age or long pensioner status if income is within the set ceilings.
