The mayor and Monsignor Schuh urged support for the Taft Ellen der-Wagner housing bill at a meeting of the emergency housing committee. They sent endorsements to Washington to back the Fight For Housing conference, while warning the Wolcott bill could hinder city housing efforts.
Republican leaders pledge speedy enactment of a 50 percent hike to the wage floor. Hearings begin Friday as the House labor sub committee reviews bills for a 60 cent minimum, aiming for passage this session. The plan targets workers in interstate commerce and those whose labor is transformed into goods.

UN Balkan investigation report assigns primary blame to Yugoslavia for supporting guerrilla activity inside Greece. The 230000 word document, submitted to the Security Council, cites political economic strife and minority persecution in Greece as contributing factors and urges a two year UN monitoring commission on the frontier. Russia and Poland oppose the findings while frontier band support is deemed a threat to world peace.
North and western coal operators met to consider terms for a new contract with John L Lewis to avert a nationwide soft coal strike next month. A large portion of miners already idle and a 10 day vacation starts Friday as talks stall over wages, with government action possible but uncertain.

Final plans outline a July Fourth air circus from 1 to 3 30 p m featuring veteran performers, a noon model airplane demo, and a four parachute bat wing jump by Lynn White. Army Air Force will send 18 ATGs from Wold-Chamberlain Field to perform, with radio relay during the jump. Event benefits CAP and ROA for radio gear and trainer equipment.

Rome reports Provisional President Enrico De Nicola submitted his resignation to the constituent assembly on Wednesday following a nationwide half hour strike by about 6 million members of the Communist dominated General Confederation of Labor. The protest targeted a string of attacks on Sicilian Communist headquarters on Sunday.
