In Glassboro New Jersey President Johnson and Soviet Premier Kosygin held a five hour summit with three hours without aides. They agreed on a Sunday follow up, signaling cautious optimism on Middle East and Vietnam issues and a potential path to a nuclear nonproliferation treaty. Johnson and Kosygin praised the first session at Hollybush and expressed willingness to continue negotiations.
Gilbert M. Sauer of West Bend was elected Wisconsin VFW Department junior vice commander at the 1968 convention, beating Ara Fish of West Salem. Raymond M. Ortman of Milwaukee was named department commander, with Edward E. Mortenson of Racine moving to senior vice commander as officers chosen for 1969.
President Johnson said no new agreements were reached with Soviet Premier Kosygin at their Glassboro meeting. He spoke at a 500 dollar per plate Democratic fundraiser in Los Angeles after the summit, as police clashed with antiwar demonstrators outside the hotel. about 10 000 protesters marched nearby and 30 were arrested. Johnson noted they had “almost, but not quite” agreed and plans to meet Kosygin again.
Mayor Bartley P. Wellner called a public council hearing in Tomah to address rumors about McCoy Job Corpsmen following a disturbance Wednesday night. The council scheduled a public session at 7 p m Monday June 26 at the high school cafeteria with Job Corps staff and the Tomah Community Relations Council in attendance.
Senator Thomas J. Dodd of Connecticut vows to remain in office after a Senate censure over personal use of campaign funds. He says he will work daily and may run for a third term despite the ethics ruling. The chamber upheld the censure by a 92-5 vote and cleared a second charge about double billing.
Wisconsin Assembly passes a 19 year old minimum beer drinking age bill by 68 to 26, while Gov. Warren Knowles push for a uniform 21. The measure would end 18 year olds’ access to beer nationally, but leaves municipal licensing to localities. The action includes tamper proof IDs and penalties for forged IDs, with licensing appeals to courts and local control debated.

A six year old Yuba boy Randy Novy was killed after stepping onto Highway 80 near Yuba. Tomah teen Michael Rezin aged 16 is in critical condition after a motorcycle collision with a car on County Trunk C. Several others remain hospitalized from a prior Char accident in which three people died.
