Emily Fogg Meade reports in the May bulletin on an Italian colony in Hammon ton New Jersey. Her study suggests that with proper environment the Italian immigrant can become industrious and assimilate despite prevailing prejudice.
Constable L B Omerberg filed garnishee proceedings today against George Rudolph who is jailed at central police station for a north side fight. Rudolph's landlord C Brown seeks about 15 dollars for board and Rudolph has not drawn wages from Summit Store foundry where he works as a molder. He was surprised to be served with a garnishee summons in the office this morning.
City officials gathered at the Board of Public Works on Saturday afternoon after offices closed at 1. They discussed the baseball game with mixed views on its quality. Hastings pitched a nice game, though.
Hot sultry weather with little breeze boosts ice cream and cool drink sales. Government station reads 87 degrees, but street thermometers often exceed 90 degrees, signaling hotter conditions in many spots.

Madison June 24 Special The session opens what may be the final week of Wisconsin's longest legislature. The senate has most bills on its calendar and expects to clear them by Wednesday. The assembly faces hundreds more, with plans for engrossing and final action, as homecoming nears July 2.
Rain spoiled several picnic outings as groups from the Swiss society, Normanna Sangerkor, and Concordia society gathered at Pammels farm Myrick park and Concordia hall. Swiss and Normanna groups sought shelter in farm buildings and pavilions while Concordia moved indoors for an afternoon program and evening dance.
The annual Sunday school picnic of the English Lutheran church will be held at Myrick park Tuesday. An athletic program is planned in the afternoon followed by a trolley ride in the evening. Mrs. J. T Jacobson will entertain the Ladies Aid society at the park. Refreshments will be served.
The Nash circuit including the Bijou theater is sold to Sullivan-Considine effective June 17 with East St. Louis and Indianapolis excluded. Mr. Nash stays as manager for a year and local managers remain. Pro109 ject plans include a new vaudeville theater in La Crosse across from the National Bank on Fourth Street.
At 7 30 this evening the La Crosse Y M C A board will meet at the association building to consider the new building, receive a report on the Van Steenwyk site at Main and Seventh, ratify the purchase, appoint committees, and elect new officers for the year.

She will receive peace delegates in the royal villa as the third committee of the peace congress meets behind closed doors with US delegates present. Irwin Lewis, stepfather of 5 year old Mary Newlin, partially confesses to killing the child by strangling with a cord and covering the head with burlap before burying the body in the yard at his Avondale home.

The railway commission dismissed the complaint by Rev. Jenkin Lloyd Jones of Chicago seeking a westbound schedule change on the Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul Prairie du Chien division. A waiter strike aboard the Sydney of the Dad to Packet line caused disruption on the Rock Island voyage after a steward struck a colored cabin boy. The boy and ten accompanying waiters were ordered off at Rock Island as the steamer passed La Crosse on its down river run. The incident sparked significant passenger disturbance among the large on board list.
Trangott Wehland died Sunday afternoon at 5 at his daughter Hermenia Dittman’s home 315 North Tenth Street. He was 88. The funeral will be from the house tomorrow at 4 in the afternoon. Reverend nzlau of the German Methodist church officiates. Miller Bros. are in charge.
