An unidentified man fired at passersby from hotel windows in San Francisco, injuring eight people before barricading himself inside the hotel. Police and emergency crews surrounded the building, negotiating with the shooter as teams worked to evacuate guests.
A man named Thomas Lobb barricaded himself in a fifth floor United States hotel room and opened fire, wounding eight passersby and one officer before shooting himself. Police stormed the room, finding the shooter dead among scattered currency and a butcher knife. several victims suffer gunshot and stab injuries as officers recover fragments of fifty dollar bills.
Chicago June 21 B F Barnheiser manager of Kohlsaat bakery testified before the grand jury denying John Driscoll’s claim that Kohlsaat paid labor leaders to avert a sympathy strike during the waiters’ strike at the Kohlsaat restaurant a year ago He said the strike was over and cost the company 125000 in lost business Alderman Thomas Carey said money given by party officials was to secure influence not strike action
Hnland S Gash reports that Russia plans to seize Finland's twelve and a half million special war reserve fund. The fund, long held sacred, was Finland's last resource after exhausting other supplies.
The Weyauwega dam on the Waupaca river broke from high water and three feet of crest washed away. Repairs will start immediately, but mills and the electric light plant remain idle in the interim.
Manitowoc Wisconsin June 21 The Fox River Valley Railway Company received a thirty five year franchise for an interurban line from Sheboygan to Kaukauna via Manitowoc. Mayor Stolze indicated he would likely sign the ordinance. Henry Boehm is at the Woodman convention in Milwaukee.
In Chicago a police officer was shot in the head during a revolver battle after police found five burglars in a stock yards butcher shop early this morning. Officer McGeoghan likely will die. Two robbers, John Mahoney and James O Hearne, were captured. Mahoney was shot in the thigh while three others fled leaving a blood trail.
In Stockholm on June 21 during an extraordinary riksdag session, the government introduced a bill to authorize negotiations with the Norwegian storthing for a conditional settlement of the separation questions. President Ramstedt urged pacific measures as the king addressed the assembly asserting the union’s value has faded and Sweden should regain what was lost.
In Lódz on June 11 a crowd of about fifty thousand attended the funeral for five riot victims. Cossacks charged a socialist procession as red flags flew. Police did not interfere.
In Oshkosh the Knights of Pythias grand lodge elected officers for 1906 led by Judge Ray S. Reed of La Crosse as grand trustee. Other appointments include C. A. Stell Beloit as grand chancellor and N. A. Ladd Madison as grand vice chancellor. The 1906 convention will meet in Milwaukee.
Philadelphia June 21 The City Trust Safe Deposit and Surety company was closed today by the state bank examiner and a receiver was appointed. The institution shows a capital of 500 660 dollars and deposits estimated at two and a half million dollars.
June 21 Milwaukee District Attorney McGovern opened proceedings to hold the graft inquisitors named by the county board in contempt of court for interfering with the grand jury that began its work today.
