Supreme Court says states not required to fund elective abortions

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that neither the Constitution nor federal law requires states to pay for elective abortions when the mother's life is not in danger. Connecticut and Pennsylvania decisions were overturned, and states may choose whether to fund such welfare-related abortions. Justice Powell wrote the majority. Nairobi Daily Nation said Ugandan President Idi Amin is missing after an alleged Saturday assassination attempt near Entebbe. Medary residents to vote on sewer plan this week

Medary town residents meet Tuesday night at Fauver Hill School to vote advisory on a compromise sewer agreement with La Crosse. Parents offer reward in Bentzen death case

The parents of Michael H. Bentzen offer a $1 000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of those responsible for his death. Bentzen’s body was recovered from the Mississippi River on June 4 listed as drowning with two gunshot wounds suggesting foul play. Houston County Sheriff Jerry Olson heads the probe. he has no new leads after speaking to dozens of people who knew Bentzen. Bentzen, 24, was last seen May 31 leaving Office Lounge in La Crosse. His father placed a newspaper ad requesting tips to a P O Box 2533 and his mother said the family will recheck the box today. La Crosse police assist Houston County in the investigation.
