President Truman signed a $6,447,730,750 foreign aid authorization setting a ceiling for military and economic assistance for the coming fiscal year. Congress trimmed the total from his request, with military aid fixed near $4.6 billion and economic aid about $1.8 billion. The measure allows up to $1 billion in arms from Defense stocks, financed from regular defense funds, while defense aims to keep leverage for any emergency.
