Villa Louis hosts colorful Prairie du Chien weekend
The Villa Louis celebration in Prairie du Chien Crawford County drew large crowds for a three day event. Miss Wisconsin Gloria Lang and La Crosse Jaycee snow queen Jean Marie Bottcher led the parade through downtown to the mansion along the Mississippi River. The day featured a horse show, a six class pageant titled Building of An Empire and float contests with Schubert’s Jewelry and Eastman 4 H club winning in unclassified and historic categories. Mayor William Carroll rode in the parade amid ownership dispute over the villa now under review by Judge Roland Steinle.

Five women were injured and hospitalized after a crash involving four cars at Fifth Avenue and Market Street on Sunday afternoon. Kenneth Balzer, 16, in a car carrying teens, collided with a westbound vehicle driven by Fritz Joseph of French Island.
