Petition Fails Renewal Of Sparta Liquor License Vote
A group of about 184 Sparta residents urged the Common Council to renew Clarence Habhegger’s Class A liquor license, but Mayor Howard Peterson said the referendum voids such action. Other items included river pollution inquiry, Austin Street paving delay, school site raze for a playground, water and sewer hookups, a temporary beer permit for a park tournament, and budget actions. The council deferred parking changes and discussed traffic safety in Memorial Park, with police fine receipts and income tax proceeds also reported.

Remember grain plan provisions in 1966 diversions
Farmers enrolled in feed grain or wheat diversion programs must conserve acreage equal to their base plus the diverted land. Wheat program requires at least 15 percent of the 1966 allotment set aside. Feed grain bases over 25 acres divert 20 percent without payment. Noncompliance could forfeit most program payments and loans.
