Three More Amish Plan To Move To Cashton Area
HAZLETON Iowa AP three more Amish families involved in a bitter school dispute will move to Wisconsin this fall. Families of Perry Miller Joe Borntrager and William Smucker will relocate to farms near Cashton southeast of La Crosse. The move raises total departures to six this year in a five year clash over schools. State officials sought state certified schools. the Amish refused. An agreement between Iowa Gov Harold Hughes and the Amish calls for children to attend one room schools with certified teachers rather than educated by older women. The governor will seek 1967 Legislature backing to replace a private grant with state funds to pay teachers.

Ruins of St Simeon the Stylite Cathedral in Syria Tourists Sparse
In Aleppo region Syria the 5th century Church of St Simeon the Stylite sits ruins high on a hilltop. once the world’s greatest building for pilgrims the site now attracts few visitors. The pillar monk Simeon died in 459 AD after 37 years atop a column. Pilgrims from Britain and Spain once sought his blessing as Roman officials consulted him on state affairs. The Arab conquest later transformed the complex into a fortress, and many Christian sites in Syria fell into decline.
