Rudolph Ploetz aged 79 and Ursula Nager aged 80 were married in Madison Wisconsin on June 11 by Justice Fehlandt after Ploetz faced protests from six grown sons. The groom, a wealthy retired farmer, left his hometown to wed, admitting the marriage stemmed from a childhood romance.
Albany reports that after an hour of uncertainty and a thwarted kidnap attempt on Senator Foelker the senate passed the Agnew Hart anti racetrack gambling bills by 26 to 25. Governor Hughes had launched the campaign at session start and the bills now go to him for approval.
Washington June 11 five members of the house will form inland waterways subcommittee to draft legislation and promote national state cooperation. The appointees include Frederick C Stevens Minnesota John J Esch Wisconsin William P Hubbard West Virginia William Richardson Alabama and Charles L Bartlett Georgia Democrats Bartlett Richardson. The group aims to abolish the Inland Waterways Commission and coordinate federal state waterway policy.
Caley J. McKnight, representative for former Governor O'Dell, arrived in Chicago to assess sentiment on New York candidates for vice president. He reports Hughes will be nominated despite efforts to withdraw, while Cortelyou’s entry depends on a Treasury official’s report. Taft delegates from South Carolina and North Carolina districts are seated, giving Taft the exact needed total for nomination.
Raymond Hitchcock, acquitted of assaulting Helen Von Hagen at 3 this morning, was released from the Tombs at noon after bail of 7500 posted by Martin Engel of Tammany Hall. He said the other four indictments would not be pressed and left with Mrs. Hitchcock and friends as the jury twice sought instructions.
