Laird Aims Self-Help Dairy Bill to Stabilize Production
Rep. Melvin R. Laird of Wisconsin said he will introduce a self help dairy bill in Congress to curb rising milk output and use a nationwide referendum to grant each dairy farmer a lease based on three year production. The plan would set price supports at 3.50 to 4.25 per hundred pounds and 75 to 90 percent parity, with excess production not supported. The measure faces uncertainty but aims to back by farm groups after adjournment and would create a National Dairy Stabilization Board to aid nationwide dairy marketing.
