Invasion Diary Aboard Admiral Hall’s Flag Ship
Aboard the flag ship on June 8 I watched the Allied invasion of France for 14 hours. The flat-boat ferry ran toward the beach despite enemy fire and coastal batteries. I left due to shoulder and leg injuries after the third attempt, noting four casualties and the wrecked beach defenses as the barge was beached and its gear unloaded.

More Help Than Ever Needed This Year On Farms In Canneries
Fay W. Hunter warned the International Association of Public Employment Services that farms and canneries need more help as crops come in and packs go up. Demands from Allied forces and liberated Europe will increase food needs and rationing may resume. Vernon McGee said invasion plans will cause broader manpower shortages, requiring tighter labor control.

General Dawley Busted at Salerno’s Front to Return as General
An army promotion list shows Major General Ernest J. Dawley, demoted to colonel after the Salerno battle last Sept, is nominated by President Roosevelt for brigadier general. Dawley, native of Antigo Wisconsin, led the 6th Corps at Salerno before the demotion, then served at Camp Roberts and Camp Hood. Recommissioning follows two factors: recovery from the stress of the battle and proven soldierly ability. A British railway is using new light weight plastic baggage trucks.
