Father Hofer a former St. Josephs Ridge priest traced to a Trappists monastery was arraigned in La Crosse county court on a serious charge brought by 17 year old parishioner Bertha Taylor. He pleaded not guilty and bail was set at 1500. He spoke of a retreat and claimed innocence.
sensational report claims States Attorney Morrison plans to resign after meeting in Washington with the Department of Justice over the beef trust grand jury case. He allegedly sought broader power to indict and push the investigation but was not satisfied with federal authorities' stance.

Of 654 admitted patients, 108 were medical with 8 deaths and 546 surgical with 9 deaths. 46 surgical cases were treated with room and care but not recorded as inpatients, and many polyclinic patients were operated on but not retained for hospital care.
John Krause and Herman Krause were found guilty in federal court on five counts of illegally fencing seven acres of government land in Nebraska. John Krause faces two more counts for intimidation preventing occupation. This marks the first conviction of big cattle barons. Penalty set at $1,000 fine or one year in prison. Prosecutions in other cases will follow.
City council expected to kill a proposal drafted by City Attorney Paul W. Mahoney that would force independent oil firms to bury tanks. Albany June 9 Justice Peckham of the U S Supreme Court denied a writ of error in the case of Mrs Mary Rogers of Vermont, convicted of her husband’s murder.
In Kenosha Wisconsin on June 9 a stairway collapse in a leading city restaurant caused four deaths and injuries. Mary Tucker and Minnie Morenz were severely hurt and two others were seriously injured in the disaster provoked by recent floods.

The assembly passed 327 to 33 a bill to appoint a woman as an additional member of the state board of control. A bill to revise the state drainage laws cleared the assembly after debate. The senate still has about 300 bills to dispose of and the assembly is near completion.
Governor Wright reports to the War Department that Russian warships failed to depart within 24 hours. Admiral Train takes custody and plans internment. He will disable machinery and remove breach blocks from all guns under the Ohio and Monadnock in Manila Bay.
Gus Rehl, a La Crosse Rug company salesman, was arrested in Sparta on a warrant from manager E E Johnson. He is charged with collecting money and not turning it in, selling samples belonging to the company, and failing to account for them.
The National Council of the Knights of Columbus meeting selected New Haven Connecticut as the site for the next convention. Officers were re elected including Edward L Horn as supreme knight and James A Flaherty as deputy supreme knight.
