Legislature Whacks Away At 40 Bills
MADISON Both the Assembly and the Senate cut through more than 40 bills each in long sessions as they push to finish before summer. The Senate sent to the Assembly a pension bill for legislators and officials with three Republicans voting against it. A tavern opening on election days bill was killed 16 to 15. Several measures died in the Senate, including stamping value and railroad passes after election. Assembly bills moving forward included burial aid for servicemen, higher butterfat in milk, and protections on municipal salaries. The Assembly killed a labeling requirement for poultry.
