Nordby Re elected President of Eastern Lutheran Synod

Rev J Nordby of Lee Ill was reelected president of the eastern synod of the Norwegian Lutheran church by a 94 to 19 vote over Rev H Halvorson of Westby Wis. Frederick Burr Opper the well known cartoonist was born in Madison Lake County Ohio on January 2 1857. He left school at fourteen and worked a year at a country newspaper. He then pursued art in New York with Frank Leslie's Weekly three years and eighteen years at Puck later joining Hearst's New York Journal. He married Nellie Barnet in 1882 and lives in Stamford Connecticut.

Bomb on Track Wrecks Streetcar in San Francisco

A bomb placed on a track wrecked a street car and slightly injured four passengers in San Francisco. The assailant, identified by police as Daniel J. White, a striking streetcar worker, was captured and recognized by witnesses.
