Seventh-Day Adventists Train For War Without Bearing Arms
In Grand Ledge Michigan 228 Adventist men attended a two week tent encampment named Camp Desmond T. Doss to gain Army basic medical training while remaining noncombatants. They paid 35 dollars each for instruction from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. with guard duty and sanitation drills. Adventists in Viet Nam serve as noncombatants and sabbath observers, with current Army provisions aiding medical divisions. MCC colonel Clark Smith notes the group favors service to government but seeks no role in taking lives. Former Marine instructor Titus Henderson helps simulate standard Army medical basic training.

Morton unfazed by Scranton exit shaping 1968 GOP field
Sen. Thruston Morton, former GOP national chairman and Senate campaign head, says 1968 presidential hopefuls will emerge if Republicans perform well in 1966. He notes Scranton's withdrawal opens the field for Nixon or Romney, with Rockefeller also stepping back. Morton cautions against premature speculation until 1966 results clarify leadership.
