A Senate small business subcommittee said it found evidence of forgeries of steel orders on stolen Bethlehem Steel letterheads. The panel cited forged commitments and brokers seeking deposits, urging buyers to verify directly with Bethlehem Steel.
Attorney General Clark asked a District of Columbia grand jury to investigate alleged antitrust violations in the railway freight car industry. Subpoenas seek documents from car builders trade associations and others as part of a broader inquiry into price fixing and market allocation.
The White House informed Rep. Lesin sk that Democratic members of the House labor committee may confer with President Truman at noon tomorrow as they push for a veto of the compromise non-curbing labor bill. Madden states plans to seek a veto while the House prepares to approve the uncompromised measure. The proposal would allow court orders to halt national calamity strikes, ban the closed shop, and empower the labor board to block jurisdictional strikes and secondary boycotts with injunctions. Hartley and Taft say the bill would restore peace in industrial relations.
Johnson Company employees strike to demand higher wages with all workers idle on the picket line. Daniel Knox, union negotiating chair, says the union rejected a company offer of 11 percent and cents per hour due to unsatisfactory pieceworker adjustments.
Detroit report says 130000 UAW workers in about 40 Ford plants are voting on a strike. The union seeks a 23 percent hourly raise and old age retirement plan. Ford offers about a 15 cent hourly increase.

Floods also displace families in Ohio and Indiana as Miami valley works to prevent major damage.
The La Crosse board of education elected Donald R. Kinney as principal of Washington elementary and the junior high, filling the vacancy from I. H. Kircher's resignation after 30 years. Kinney, a Central High School teacher since 1937, previously acted as Lincoln elementary and junior high principal and has prior experience in Boyceville and Webster. The vote followed routine personnel changes and budget approvals including furniture, equipment, and summer maintenance plans.
Shanghai dispatch reports the arrest of a professor and 140 students as Shanghai and Peiping students boycott classes. Authorities accuse the group of planning a general Communist uprising while protests denounce police and soldier crackdowns to curb anti civil war demonstrations.
Rural communities south of Pine Bluff Arkansas prepared to bury their dead from Sundays tornado that killed 34 and left hundreds homeless or injured. Davis Hospital reported 71 injured under treatment with 35 in critical condition. A tentative death list numbered 35.
The 4 billion dollar annual income tax reduction cleared the Senate by 48 to 29 and faces possible presidential veto. House had approved 220 to 99. Taft urged Truman not to veto, while Truman opposes tax cuts this year. Relief would reduce individual rates 10.5 to 30 percent starting July 1. Treasury warned Time to tax relief is approaching.

Four year old Pat Laughan son of Mr and Mrs Emmet Laughan of 1447 George Street received minor injuries after running into the side of a car driven by Roy Scams near his home Monday noon. Witnesses said the car had halted before the boy crossed and struck his head on the impact.
