Memorial Day flowers budget forces redesign at Oak Grove
Judge R V Ahlstrom says a $200 deficit last year led the Memorial day committee to drop geranium plants on individual graves at Oak Grove cemetery. Urns of blooming plants will instead be used for the season while smaller cemeteries keep the old custom. The committee met in January to plan costs and methods amid rising plant prices and care concerns. Ahlstrom, general chairman for 22 years, notes embedding pots complicates grave maintenance and drought harms geraniums.
