Tremplo Man Killed In Blair Crash

Judge Oscar Schmiege Dies During Murder Trial
Appleton Municipal Judge Oscar J. Schmiege 57 died of a heart attack Saturday while instructing a jury in a first degree murder case against Leslie Weinke of Kaukauna. The trial was halted. a mistrial was granted after Schmiege’s death. The special prosecutor Samuel Sigman was hospitalized for surgery. Weinke pleads not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors include his widow Edith and two children.
