Fatal attack in Black River Falls sparks murder charge probe

Raymond Larson, 42, faces possible first degree murder charges after his wife was found dead Friday night in a duplex in Black River Falls. He was in jail awaiting formal complaint by early next week as authorities sent evidence to the Wisconsin Crime Laboratory. Funeral plans for Mrs. Larson were announced with services set for Monday.

Nine Navy fliers die in crash near Hiroshima

A Navy patrol bomber crashed Friday near Hiroshima on Atada island, 12 miles south of the city, killing all nine crew members. The aircraft exploded after a pre-dawn takeoff from Iwakuni base in southern Honshu. The cause is undetermined as observers say the aircraft was turning south after a northern departure when it struck halfway up the 700 foot high island.

Preparations Under Way For 61st La Crosse Inter State Fair

Neighbor Builds 80 Foot Fence Across Davis Burlingame Lot

Des Moines reports a boundary dispute between the Blaine A. Davis family and neighbors the Burlingames. Lightning Hits Chemical Plant Fire Engulfs Million-Gallon Tank

A lightning strike set ablaze a one million gallon ethyl alcohol tank at the Carbide and Carbon Chemicals institute plant near Charleston West Virginia. Fire departments from several cities fought the outbreak as flames rose high and drew onlookers and newsmen. No injuries were reported though hospitals prepared for possible cases.

Physician Beconovich joins Army Private Duty at Camp

Dr. Robert C. Beconovich a 27 year old Hammond Indiana physician who declined a lieutenant’s commission and enlisted as a private was assigned to Fort Sheridan Dispensary. He will undergo basic training at an Army medical center within a couple of weeks under the government education call up policy. He has a wife and two children and has practiced medicine for two years.

DiSalle Discusses Economic Control Bill With Truman

President Truman and price director Michael DiSalle traveled together on Saturday and discussed the new economic controls measure. The compromise bill, approved by the Senate, would allow price and rent increases and some rollbacks, relax consumer credit controls, and goes to the House Monday where passage is expected.

Couple Still Missing Near French Island

Undersheriff Vern Lamp reports Mr Richard Osweiler and wife have been missing since Friday noon. They were last seen in La Crosse and were believed to be in a 1942 black Tudor Plymouth with Wisconsin plate 7 50043. An all state appeal was issued to Wisconsin Minnesota and Iowa authorities to aid the search.
