The Journal backs Senator Morris for governor and hints McGovern cannot be a candidate. Inside coverage notes progressive Republicans rally behind Morris with enthusiasm. The paper portrays Morris as the leading choice and frames the race as a Morrison favored contest.
Milwaukee Journal reports state Senator Edmonds as the likely Progressive choice for United States senator with Stephen- son allies backing him and Hudnall tapped to sidetrack Davidson. It notes Morris as popular in political circles but not well known to eastern voters, while McGovern’s candidacy is disputed and Bancroft and Davidson face sidelining in the shuffle.
In White Plains Evelyn Nesbit Thaw, located after midnight, remains under sub poena and may not testify as judges rely on three state alienists to prove Thaw sane. Court rules require open examination. Thaw seeks freedom while crowds gather to watch proceedings.
City members unite to divide the $10 000 road appropriation into five equal parts to repair five roads from the city while county board debates spending the entire $10 690 allocated for road improvements. The county board faces possible extra session to finish its work.
County board members and reporters dined at noon at the American House. The meal was paid from $13.45 remaining from the county picnic fund. The committee reported picnics cost the supervisors $2 each.

The Princess de Sagan former Countess de Castel lane leaves Paris with three nurses and her physician bound for the De Sagan chateau Du Mariest and St Cheron. An heir to the de Sagan title and fortune is momentarily expected.

An immense crowd fills Judge Brick's court as a new batch of love letters to Col. Snell surfaces in the third Snell will case. The letters claim money and affection, with one from Mabel Snell McNamara calling him “my precious darling” and promising kisses, while others reference payments and romantic enticements. A letter from “Sue” notes a sisterly stance and mentions the Chicago origin.
John B. Minert, a longtime grain dealer and former county sheriff of Allamakee, collapsed during a checkers game in his Waukon office and died likely of heart failure. Born March 4, 1853 in Post township, he married Margaret Arkley and leaves widow, five children, two sisters, and affiliations with Knights of Pythias and Woodmen.
Dr. R. Miller of Crescent City is jailed for the murder of J. S. Sayler, bank vice president. Mrs. Sayler is held as an accessory. Miller shot Sayler in a quarrel after Sayler accused them of improper conduct. A coroner's jury bound Miller and Mrs Sayler for trial.
Christian Johnson in San Jose recites his dealings with numerous women across the United States and his schemes to gain money through marriages. He admits to an unknown number of wives and long-running practice of making a living by marrying and appropriating funds from women. Johnson receives a seven year prison sentence.
Mayor Ori J Sorensen and Secretary J L Niermoeh of the board of trade sent invitations for the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police to hold their 1910 convention in La Crosse. Chief Webber of La Crosse and Racine police chief helped organize. Webber is secretary. About 75 members exist, plan to grow to about 200 by next year.
Labor leaders indicate the Carmen Union may call a new strike in the near term. Talks with management have stalled, with workers demanding contract gains and safer conditions. Local authorities urge peaceful action as union officials finalize plans.
Fred Fay of the International Carmen's union warns La Crosse City Street Railway officers and directors to stop unfair practices in enforcing rules or risk a new strike order. He alleges supervisors quote workers falsely and press them to sign statements, while Supt Shaw defends accuracy. Union secretary Bruhnke, fined $75, has not paid, delaying reinstatement.
