City Railway declines Main Street extension plan
At a city council meeting the franchise for extending the City Railway along Main Street to Market Street and absorbing Market Street tracks from Sixteenth to Twenty third was refused. President B E Edwards cited two decades of unprofitable lines, predicting losses of about 1900 dollars yearly and stating the Market Street route may be taken up unless it improves. He urged council to consider the public interest and warned the company cannot sustain further losses.
