Firebombers Driven Off Near Home Of Reagan
Two Negro youths carrying bottles approached Governor Ronald Reagan’s Sacramento home Tuesday night. A Secret Service agent fired a warning shot and the would be attackers fled dropping the firebombs, neither exploding. State police and agents pursued but did not catch them as violence erupted nearby. A neighbor reported shots fired but police said none at the mansion.

Missing Man George Danielson Found Dead in Mississippi River
The 58 year old George Danielson of La Crosse and La Crescent was found drowned in the Mississippi River below Brownsville after being missing since June 29. The body was discovered by 12 year old Mark Gantenbein while fishing. An inquest was not held per Houston County coroner Dr. Philip Utz who ruled death by self drowning. Danielson left behind a widow Gladys Stigen, a son Richard, his mother and four sisters.

The La Crosse Interstate Fairgrounds opened the 78th fair with prize hogs cattle and sheep unloaded and stalls assigned. Albert Becker reported 273 junior fair dairy and beef entries and 240 open class cattle amid more than 850 junior fair entries from 32 clubs.

Circus Tent Collapse Injures 85 at Auburn NY Show
A Clyde Beatty Cole Brothers Circus performance in Auburn, New York, was interrupted by a violent thunderstorm. About 800 spectators were present, 85 were injured but none critically, as the 300 foot tent collapsed under wind and rain. Rescue crews worked amid ankle deep water to free trapped patrons.
