Seek Strike Settlement Nears At La Crosse Plant
Last minute efforts to reach an agreement between Electric Auto-Lite La Crosse division management and local No. 396 UAW-CIO were under way with a conciliator from the Milwaukee federal conciliation service due to arrive. A strike of more than 2,000 workers is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Wednesday. The union president said the conciliator would meet separately with union and management after arriving at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. No new developments were reported in Trane company talks with federal labor officials. The conciliator who attended earlier meetings is slated to return later this week.
