Frederick and Redfield, South Dakota report a killer twister that tore through the area Saturday night, killing a child, destroying homes and farm buildings, blowing cars into a lake, and causing widespread damage estimated in the hundreds of thousands. The storm followed ten days of extreme heat and moved from near the Missouri River toward the northeast, with eighties mph winds and rain and hail. Omaha experienced a cloudburst flooding basements and low areas, adding to regional damage.
J Conklin escaped from a Michigan City officer aboard Milwaukee train No. 16 near Winona. The prisoner freed his cuff chain, crawled through a lavatory sash, and dropped beside the track before the train reached Mankato Avenue. Police say the escape went unnoticed until the officer woke on the moving train.

Visitors showed great interest in the Americanization pageant staged by the Des Moines schools. The pageant will be staged by foreign born citizens who have completed the Americanization process.

Another crash at 3:40 am on Jackson and Eighteenth streets involved a Coon Valley driver. Amy Gilbertson injured. Arthur Ronken arrested after alleged intoxication at a road house.
