Beloit Wis Jan 26 Professor Carl Waugh of Beloit college has cured A H Chase a Lake Forest NL student of blindness through hypnotism He was injured in the Lawrence Beloit football game and became totally blind before Christmas Waugh put him in a trance for half an hour and Chase says his sight is restored today
Mrs Agnette Brekke of Whitehall Wisconsin wife of Ob Brekke died yesterday afternoon in a local hospital after a few days illness. She leaves four children Olida Elma Bessie and Erwin aged six to twenty four. Funeral services will be held at the Norwegian Lutheran church in Whitehall at 2 o clock Wednesday afternoon.
Paris dispatches report big German losses as they resume attacks west of La Bassee and along the Lys to the Oise. British hold Givenchy and Cuinchy with heavy German casualties after multiple charges. French repulse daylight assault east of Ypres with 200 German dead. Berlin says British coast bombardments killed civilians. Germans claim capture of La Bassee positions and three officers, 110 men, one cannon, and three machine guns.
Luther G White a Burlington railroad third trick operator at Stoddard Wisconsin faces arson charges filed by deputy state fire marshal J F Baker after three mysterious fires. He will plead not guilty and appeal to the limit with attorney Frank Withrow of La Crosse. White will be arraigned in Viroqua and his mother from Oregon Wisconsin is en route to aid his defense. His brother serves as postmaster at Stoddard.
A chimney fire at Frank Mader’s residence at Thirteenth and Tyler streets was reported at 8:45 PM. Fire Department No. 5 responded with no damage reported.
