A major fire in Viroqua at 2 am damaged much of the business section including the Proctor block and First National bank. Losses totaled about $85,000 with insurance covering part and fire protection deemed inadequate. Fire started in the Zitzner Harness shop and spread despite help from volunteers and the Southeastern train engine.

Banker Clements Homes Sold at Public Auction
An auction of the former banker Joseph Clements homestead in La Crosse was conducted by ex sheriff John Hougen. The property at Tenth and Main sold to John M. Motorman Stops Fire Department At Doorstep
John Barry driver for Chief Bradfield halted at Eighth and Main to yield to a La Crosse Street Railway car while racing to a fire at Ella Chamberlain 314 South Seventh Street. The blaze was confined to a chimney and extinguished. Chief Bradfield was at 315 South Ninth Street and supper when the alarm sounded. The fire occurred at 7 30 p.m.
