Governor McGovern appoints Lewis A. Anderson to replace Ekern as Wisconsin insurance commissioner. Kansas City Mo Jan 15 The third trial of Dr B C Hyde for the murder of Colonel Thomas H Swope began after defense attorneys failed in all attempts to obtain a delay. The examination of 47 veniremen started about 10 50 am. The first trial ended in a life term after a conviction. The Missouri supreme court remanded the case for a new trial. The second trial began last October and ended in December when a juror fled due to temporary insanity over financial worries.
A dispute at tonight's special water committee meeting arises over inspector appointment for marsh pipe work. John Schnell, appointed by the Board of Public Works, already begins at $70 monthly, while charter provisions and council resolutions provoke questions about who may appoint inspectors and how applications should be handled.

In Chicago an underground tunnel explosion left two men dead and eight others injured. The Virginia Supreme Court denied a re trial for Floyd and Claude Allen the Hillsville mountaineers sentenced to die for their roles in the Hillsville murders. Unless Governor Mann interferes they face execution in the electric chair on Friday morning in Richmond.

Dr. Ozse L. Ellis won a verdict of 84 dollars against the estate of Louisa La Brie in circuit court before Judge E. C. Higbee this morning. Court adjourned until Thursday morning. Plaintiff sought payment for medical services rendered.

The body of Mrs. Anna Hagan of Decorah Iowa died at 6 15 this morning in a local hospital of a complication of diseases She was 45 years old The funeral will be held in Decorah at 2 o clock Sunday afternoon local time Burial follows in Decorah Any additional details were not provided in the notice.
Fredrick Welch of Pine Creek died last Friday. His funeral was yesterday at 12 15 in the Presbyterian church La Crescent. Rev Roberts delivered the oration and W M Selby conducted the service. Pallbearers were Peter Krog A Lilly D Wetchen Golden Turnbull William Quinn and Paul Veglahn. It was one of the large funerals ever held in La Crescent.
