Madison dispatch reports Isaac Stephenson will be re elected to the U S Senate without opposition. Wisconsin leader Robert M La Follette has abandoned opposition to Stephenson and will not seek the fight against the Marinette lumberman.
Red Cross stamp campaign in La Crosse reports sales of 118 278 stamps. Disposed 116 778 with 1 500 outstanding on consignment. Expected full collection will total 118 278 stamps worth 1182 78 dollars for anti tuberculosis funds.
Huntington West Virginia January 12 Another explosion struck the Lick branch coal mines owned by Pocahontas Consolidated. Switback on the Norfolk and Western line. Fifty or more miners believed entombed. Second blast in two weeks after last incident killed fifty. No cause given.
A Mankato quarry worker James York killed his four children Earl 14 Nina 12 Vera 6 Zula baby with a knife, then hanged himself in a woodshed. Eldest daughter Ida found the scene and alerted neighbors as Sheriff and Coroner investigated a kitchen shown as a bloody scene. Ida kept house after his wife’s death last summer. Neighbors describe York as reclusive and troubled.
