Sweden Grants Sanctuary to Four American Deserters
The Aliens Commission unanimously granted sanctuary to four U S deserters who fled the Vietnam war to Sweden. It said they were not political refugees but could stay for humanitarian reasons. The sailors arrived December 29 from Moscow after televised protests against the war. Names: John M. Barilla, Richard D. Bailey, Craig Anderson, Michael Lindner.

Radde 77 longtime newspaper publisher and past president of the Wisconsin Press Association died Monday January 8 after a long illness in Sparta Wisconsin He had owned and edited the Sparta Herald and later served as general manager and president of Monroe County Publishers He is survived by Olga Kittleman widow two sons a daughter eight grandchildren and a great grandchild Funeral services will be Thursday at the United Church of Christ with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.

La Crosse aldermen in a quick committee vote approved a beer license for the 1968 Oktoberfest at Colpe land Park and a north parking lot venue, set a 21 age limit in test beer tents, and scheduled bids on a 4,015,000 1968 bond issue.
