Wisconsin New Year’s Toll Six in Snowbound Conditions
Six people died in Wisconsin during the New Year holiday as winds and snow worsened travel. Racine residents Glenn J. Rulle and Walter Orlowski perished when their car left Highway 42 near the Milwaukee County line, while Max B. Dajnowski was critically injured. Milwaukee resident Frank Andrszyczak was killed after being struck on a Milwaukee street. Toby Jackson of Rock Island died after a vehicle hit him on Highway 18 near Jefferson. Melvin Kopotic drowned when his car plunged into the Manitowoc River near the 21st Street bridge. Kopotic was a Manitowoc County highway department book keeper.
