Agriculturists at an Onalaska gathering outline new crop stunt ideas and methods to boost yields and control pests. Educators join to identify county farmers' major problems and plan solutions.
Professors Moore and Halpin of the University of Wisconsin spoke at the Onalaska Farmers' Course. The address on Getting Results from Alfalfa emphasized crop value and the role of alfalfa in farm systems. Halpin urged better poultry management, noting many flocks waste grain.
Onalaska residents attend the final night of Circnus with fakir sideshows, a minstrel show, and animal acts led by Trainer Harris. A large school fair indoors transforms the event into a county fair preview as Justice Larson plans a 9 o'clock ceremony.
Professor J Saunders warns farm costs rise with war time pests and urges farmers to cash in on small expenses. Allied fleet under Vice Admiral Carden moved past the entrance forts at the Dardanelles after mine sweeping and began shelling fortifications on both sides. The Turkish fleet lay in Niagara roads, as experts warned of a decisive naval battle in the narrow channel. Aurora police, led by Chief Frank Michels, arrest twenty black and fifteen white suspects after Emma Peterson, a laundry worker, is found dead near ex Senator Hopkins' home. A bloodhound team joins the hunt as officers cordon the scene and a piercing shriek clocks the crime at a few minutes after ten. A purse is empty and a gas pipe fragment is found near the body.
Mrs. Michael Deegan of Mound Prairie gave birth to a baby girl at St. Francis hospital in a Caesarean operation, a rare success in La Crosse. Both mother and child are progressing favourably though the mother remains in danger. Mrs Deegan, 43, had never been a mother before.
