He had lived in Woodland Washington for years and was born September 20 1838 in Wayne County Indiana. He moved to Walworth and later La Crosse County and farmed near Lewis Valley and West Salem. Surviving are three sons J E McConnell Carl P McConnell Leslie G McConnell and daughter Mrs Elmer Samuels. Interment at Neshonoc cemetery West Salem. Funeral arrangements pending nonresident relatives to be heard from.
In Madison Wisconsin on February 21 the municipal court found J J Noltner and his son Raymond guilty of assault and battery against Lena Noltner. The couple bound her hand and foot with leather thongs and wire, forced her into a sleigh, and left her bound without food or water all day. The judge called the act one of the most brutal crimes seen and they were fined 25 dollars or jailed thirty days.

A large fire in Houston, Texas, began at 2 30 A M and quickly spread despite a breeze. One person was killed in the blaze as authorities used dynamite to contain hotspots. Fire crews battled the flames through the night, with strong winds fanning the conflagration.
A massive blaze in Houston consumed over 200 buildings across 57 blocks near Southern Pacific yards. Winds 35 mph spread embers, with dynamite used to halt the fire. Loss estimates reach 6 million as homes, factories, mills, and St Patrick's church were damaged or destroyed.
