A winter storm returns with freezing rain and heavy winds across the Coulee region. Temps fall to near 20 here, with 3-4 inches of snow expected tonight and down to 10 below zero by Thursday morning. Nearby Buffalo and Eau Claire report fresh snow as a statewide pattern continues.
U S jet pilots attacked targets around Hanoi while a big battle near Quang Ngai City saw about 400 Korean marines suffer moderate losses and press the North Vietnamese. Minesweepers along Saigon canal were damaged as Viet Cong fired on vessels and air strikes continued over North Vietnam.
Severe winter moved into Minnesota and surrounding states with heavy snow up to 11 inches and winds 25 to 35 mph. Drifting caused school closures across six west central Minnesota counties and widespread icy roads. single digits to -31 F temperatures reported in multiple towns.
About 600 to 700 people heard details of a proposed La Farge Reservoir dam on the Kickapoo River in Wisconsin. The plan envisions a 103 foot high earth dam, 4,000 feet long, with a 1,780 acre pool and 13 public-use areas. The project could begin land purchases and bids if funding becomes available, with construction possible by 1968.

Ernest Ludwig Heuss, 55, son of West Germany's first president, died Tuesday after a stroke. Heuss, linked to the Heuss family, passed away in Germany.
The Hong Kong Star says a Sinkiang general Kwok Pang met Russians in Ulan Bator to seek Soviet aid. No confirmation elsewhere. The Star cites a China inside report. Wang En-mao leads Sinkiang forces opposing Mao purge and may have retreated to mountains amid Sino Soviet border tensions.
